The Goodyear Welt

Patented and namned already in the late 1800´s by Mr Charles Goodyear Jr, the Goodyear Welt is often used as a confirmation of handcrafted well-made shoes and boots.

A Goodyear Welt is basically a strip of leather that runs along the perimeter of the sole and is sewn to the upper before it gets sewn to the sole, connecting the two.

It both improves water resistance and also acts as a buffer.

The welt can then be easily unstitched allowing the sole to be replaced again and again as it is worn down, basically letting you wear your favorite boots for life if treated respectfully and cared for with love.

Crafting a Goodyear Welt is not restricted to any special sole but only refers to the way you attach the upper. It is labour-intensive, but this double-stitch reinforcement makes the boots incredibly resilient and ensures the threads will never unravel.
